The 30th Anniversary Hype Starts Now

Sealed Is Starting To Consolidate... But Vintage Slabs Keeps Climbing

By Chase Society Desk

The Pokemon 30th Anniversary set is expected to be revealed on Monday, and we’ll have an article posted as soon as it drops so stay tuned.

Trust us, this will be one of Pokemon’s biggest moments in its existence.

After weeks of nonstop movement, the sealed Pokemon market feels like it’s finally starting to consolidate.

And honestly?

This probably shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.

We’ve seen an incredible run over the last few months across modern sealed products. We’ve seen hot action particularly in ETBs, Booster Bundles, and Booster Boxes as collectors and investors piled into many of the same names and products.

As of right now though,

The market across the board definitely feels different.

Things are slowly starting to pivot.

Instead of broad strength across everything, we’re beginning to see the market slow down and become a bit more consolidated.

Products tied to strong Pokemon nostalgia, iconic chase cards, or lower supply still seem to be getting the majority of the attention.

Meanwhile, some of the newer sealed products are beginning to trade sideways after massive runs, which in our opinion is a completely healthy sign after such a euphoric stretch.

We don’t think it means weakness.

To us, this signals a maturing market that’s here to stay.

Markets don’t go up forever in straight lines, and some flattening after strong moves is usually exactly what you want to see before the next leg higher.

Overall, the easy money phase feels like it may be cooling off, and buyers appear to be becoming much more selective about where capital is flowing.

But while sealed catches its breath…

There’s another side of the hobby steadily pushing forward.

Vintage Still Refuses To Slow Down

On the graded side of things, some cards continue to push past record prices for one simple reason:

Scarcity.

Vintage Pokemon, Charizard, Blastoise, Alakazam, Graded Cards

It really is an entirely different market.

We are continuing to see monster slab sales across the hobby, especially for truly scarce cards with strong collector demand. We actually saw 2 Gyarados sales over $50k over the weekend.

High-end trophy cards, low-pop vintage holos, first editions, and iconic grails continue to push higher as serious collectors compete for pieces that simply don’t come up very often.

And that is the key difference.

Pokemon can always print more modern (and they do).

They can’t go back in time.

When a genuinely rare card hits the market, especially at a high grade, buyers are still showing up aggressively.

Vintage doesn’t always dominate headlines like modern releases…

But behind the scenes, they’re dominating the charts.

The 30th Anniversary Reveal Is Almost Here

And now for the big one.

The reveal for Pokemon’s 30th Anniversary set is expected as early as Monday.

This could quickly become one of the biggest talking points in the hobby.

Because let’s be honest…

Pokemon knows exactly how to weaponize nostalgia.

If they lean heavily into OG Pokemon, iconic artworks, throwback mechanics, or anniversary-style products…

The entire market can once again heat up very quickly.

The hype around anniversary products is almost always different from your run of the mill release.

Collectors, retail, and fans who haven’t paid attention in years show up.

We are definitely watching this one closely.
