Mid-Era Sealed Leaves Modern Behind (Market Movers)
The out-of-print bid pushed Team Up's Elite Trainer Box from $3,126 to $4,000 while Pitch Black shed 44% of its bundle price in the first days after release. The sealed market split into two sides this month, and the line between them is whether supply can still grow.

The Board Split in Two
Two weeks ago we said that if Destined Rivals kept sliding, we'd turn cautious on the whole 2025 shelf, and that we'd flag it the moment it did. It kept sliding. The ETB is at $158 now, off 24% on the month, and this is us flagging it.
But the follow-through on one set turned out to be the small story. Look at the whole board, measured as always over a trailing 30 days, and every single loser is a release-window product: Pitch Black, 30th Celebration presales, Destined Rivals, Perfect Order. And nearly every meaningful gainer is a box or ETB that went out of print years ago. The money stayed in sealed and walked across the aisle.
The Out-of-Print Bid Went Up a Shelf
Team Up's Elite Trainer Box (ETB) is the headline: $3,126 to $4,000 on the month, +28%. It moved in exactly two steps, one to $3,261 at the start of July and one to $4,000 mid-month, and it has held that price for over a week. That step shape is what buying looks like at this altitude. A 2019 ETB has maybe a handful of listings alive at any moment, so there's no smooth curve to draw; a buyer clears an ask, the next seller reprices, and the chart jumps a floor at a time.
Cosmic Eclipse climbed the same staircase with more patience, four steps from $1,650 to $1,883, and Guardians Rising is the one still in motion, printing its fifth step of the month just days ago at $402. Generations added 8% to reach $2,742. The one modern name up here is Paldea Evolved, and honestly its run belongs to June: it did all its climbing in one late-June week and has drifted a couple dollars lower since.
The Boxes Followed, With One Asterisk
Primal Clash tops the box board at +29% to $3,800, and the shape of that one deserves a caveat: the listings went dark for about a week at the end of June, and when the box came back on the market it came back at $3,800. That's a repricing, and it's held for two weeks, but nobody should read it as a bidding war.
The cleaner stories sit right under it. Unified Minds is the steadiest expensive chart in sealed, stepping from $2,644 to $2,924 with a new higher price roughly every week all month. And Crimson Invasion delivered the sharpest live move on the entire green side of the board: after three weeks parked at $570, it jumped to $614 this week. Down at the modern end, the original Mega Evolution box keeps grinding, +7% to $328, which matters for a reason we'll get to below, and Journey Together recovered its June dip to reach $299.
The Bundles Sat This One Out
The bundle board is the tamest it's looked in months. Crown Zenith leads at +11% to $215, most of that from a single late-June step, and Shrouded Fable has crawled from $60 to $66 a dollar at a time. Everything else here moved single digits.
That tameness is information. In June the bundles led the whole market, because a bundle is the cheapest ticket into a set and cheap tickets sell first when a rally is broad. This month the leadership lives on the $2,000-and-up shelf instead. Whatever money is entering sealed right now is skipping the entry-level product and going straight for boxes that can never be printed again, which tells you it's fewer, more deliberate buyers.
The Laggards: The Release Premium Collapsed
Pitch Black hit shelves Friday, and the market marked the whole set down before the weekend was over. The bundle is the worst chart in sealed, $75 to $42 on the month with a 30% drop in the last week alone. The ETB went $123 to $87, and the box shed 20% to $217. On Friday we told you the supply flood was coming; this is what it did on arrival.
We also have to own one. Two weeks ago we wrote that Pitch Black's ETB had already based out around $108. Release supply took it to $87. When the truck is still unloading, calling a bottom is guesswork, and we did some guesswork.
The rest of the red side rhymes. 30th Celebration presales are deflating on schedule, the ETB down to $221 from $293 and the bundle at $128, on thin, jumpy presale listings that have pointed one direction since early July. The set doesn't release until September 16, which means the supply that punishes presale premiums hasn't even shipped yet. Perfect Order's box slid from $225 to $173 in eleven days with no catalyst we can confirm, Chaos Rising's box is off 18% to $192, and Destined Rivals dropped another 10% this week to $158.
The Read
One market made both sides of this board. Collectors looked at products where the printer is still running, or the presale truck hasn't arrived, and decided the hype premium wasn't worth carrying. The same collectors looked at shelves that can never be restocked and paid up, in steps, without haggling. The penalty is aimed at launch prices specifically: Mega Evolution's box and bundle, priced off what's actually in the packs, both climbed this month while three of its sibling sets bled out around them.
The hedge is on the winning side. Steps are thin by nature, and a $4,000 Team Up print is one buyer meeting one ask, not a deep bid you could sell three boxes into tomorrow. Our tripwire is Celebrations, the 2021 anniversary set, no relation to September's 30th Celebration: its ETB led this whole rally, spent early July around $500, and just shed 8% on the week to $437. If the set that started the run keeps sinking, the rotation up-shelf has less fuel than the green column suggests, and we'll treat the next Team Up step with suspicion. Until then, the pattern for anyone shopping a fresh release is sitting right there in Pitch Black's chart: the discount shows up within days of the truck, not before.
