Surging Sparks: The Forgotten Pokemon Set

Surging Sparks is the only Scarlet & Violet booster box still under $300, with three Pikachu chase cards and a 30th Anniversary tailwind in front of it.

By Chase Society Desk

Everyone’s eyes are still glued to Ascended Heroes, Chaos Rising, and of course looking ahead to the 30th Anniversary.

Don’t get us wrong, they’re amazing sets. But today, we want to talk about a set we think is flying under the radar right now that we think can pick up steam fast.

Our pick this week is sitting one generation back, and almost everybody seems to have forgotten about it:

Surging Sparks.

The set came out in November 2024 and is part of the Scarlet & Violet era.

As you all probably know by now, some Scarlet & Violet sets have totally stolen the spotlight of the Pokemon market over the last year. Indeed, we’re talking about Prismatic Evolutions, 151, Destined Rivals, and now Ascended Heroes.

However, Surging Sparks hasn’t received nearly the same love as its peers. More than that, it’s almost completely forgotten.

What we see when a genuinely interesting set comes across our radar that nobody us talking about:

Opportunity.

The setup:

📦 Booster Box: ~$260. Hovering here for about a year now.

🎁 Elite Trainer Box: ~$120. Inching up over the last few months.

Why we think this set is different:

Most modern sets depend heavily on one card.

Surging Sparks? It’s actually pretty well stacked. But above all else, it has the one and only Pikachu ex Special Illustration Rare (SIR) as the true chase card.

And not just one version.

The set features three major Pikachu chase cards:

Pikachu ex (SIR)
Pikachu ex (Hyper Rare)
Pikachu ex (Ultra Rare)

And let’s not forget Latias ex SIR, which has become one of the standout cards in the set and benefits from its strong connection to the Latios Illustration Rare.

To us, it’s a pretty compelling chase lineup for a set the market seems to have completely forgotten.

And let’s be honest:

Pikachu moves markets.

The booster box is still sitting under $300, which is pretty insane when you think about what this set’s packing. It’s the ONLY booster box in the entire Scarlet & Violet era still trading below that level, while also being one of the cheaper booster boxes across the entire Pokemon market.

To us, it’s hard to make sense of when we compare it to sets like Phantasmal Flames, which came out just six months ago and already has booster boxes approaching $500.

Another important thing worth noting: Surging Sparks is expected to stop being printed sometime next year if it follows the typical 2-year production cycle.

The 30th Anniversary catalyst:

We talked about the 30th Anniversary last week but want to bring it up again for all the new readers because we genuinely think it could be a catalyst for sets like Surging Sparks.

The 30th Anniversary is expected to arrive on September 18, 2026 marking the first-ever simultaneous worldwide Pokemon set launch.

Historically, anniversary hype tends to bring older sealed products back into the conversation.

But the most exciting part?

It brings back nostalgia, and more importantly, a lot of eyes hunting for the slept on cards of OG Pokemon like Pikachu.

Surging Sparks is sitting right there with three incredible Pikachu chase cards, while also having Latias ex as the second major chase card.

Honestly, a pretty strong lineup.

Our take:

Is Surging Sparks an S-tier set and one of the most exciting sets out there?

Let’s be completely honest: probably not.

However, we do think it’s undervalued compared to the rest of the market. The artwork is more than solid, the theme is exciting, and it still feels largely overlooked.

Also worth noting: the set is still in print, meaning this opportunity may not last forever but it could also take patience while it’s still being printed.

It feels like a few interesting things could align over the next few months that may get people looking back at Surging Sparks again.
